Chevy CO2 Reduction Initiative - 2012 Update

Last fall, Chevrolet made a commitment to invest in various clean energy projects throughout America with a goal to reduce up to eight million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over the next few years.

The initiative is based on project that promote energy savings, renewable energy, responsible use of natural resources and conservation in communities across America.  Chevy's carbon-reduction goal is about the same as the emissions for 2011 from driving the 1.9 million vehicles Chevy sold in the US that year.

As of the beginning of 2012, Chevy has already agreed to support 17 projects across the country as part of its commitment.  This includes everything from biomass to wind turbines.  The agreements are about half of Chevy's goal.   The projects are all at the initial stages.

Beyond Chevy's goal, it is partnering with the National Forest Foundation and San Juan National Forest in Colorado to help replant trees in a part of the forest damaged by fire.

Chevy has produced six videos that highlight these projects.  Chevy has also launched an app enabling consumers to showcase their co-consciousness by planting virtual trees on their Facebook walls.
